City Pharmacy Ltd launched its 2010 Pride of PNG Awards for Women today at the Ela Beach Brasserie, Port Moresby.
Patron of the Awards, the Governor General of PNG, Grand Chief, Sir Paulias Matane officiated at the occasion and called for nominations from groups and individuals. He even told the crowd of about 100 that he would nominate a woman for an award this year.
MEDAL CATEGORIES & CRITERIA
The nominee must reflect the core value of giving and not receiving, and the basis of their actions and that their choices have been made for the good of other people and their community; rather than for themselves.
1) Bravery & Courage
For an act of bravery that helped saved a life or assisted someone in danger
2) Care & Compassion
Shown care and compassion by taking the initiative to help to improve the living standard of disadvantaged people in the community they live in.
3) Young PNG
For a Papua New Guinean 22 years or younger who has demonstrated outstanding resolve, mature judgement and moral character beyond their years.
4) Community Spirit
For an individual or group whose voluntary and/or charitable activities have most improved the quality of life of a fellow citizen or group of people in their community.
5) Educational Model
For outstanding achievement in the field of education either as an educator or a student.
6) Environment
For an individual or group whose actions have improved the environment in a positive way
Nominations close on Friday July 16 and the Presentation of Awards will be in August.
The Pride of PNG Awards started 4 years ago to recognise unsung heroes in our communities and empower women in the country. Hundreds of nominations are received by City Pharmacy every year and a panel of judges make a selection for the awards night.
